Survey and excavations carried out by Dokuz Eylül University (Izmir) made it possible to identify the site as Hadrianoupolis which was settled between 1st c. B.C. and 8th c. A.D. 10 out of 24 buildings identified on site are paved with mosaics which show the wealth of the city during the Late Antique Period.
During the 2008 campaign, mosaic pavements in Baths A, Early Byzantinian Church B and Roman villa have been revealed, cleaned and consolidated. These opus tessellatum pavements are generally and are decorated with geometric, floral and animal patterns. |
