The article aims to document the development of mosaic research in Turkey, concentrating on recent finds during the past 20 years. As the first of a series of articles, mosaic finds from the southern and southeastern regions of Turkey have been analyzed. Half of the mosaic finds from Turkey during the past 20 years have been revealed in Cilicia and Syria, which shows the importance of these regions as mosaic production centers. The documented mosaics are evaluated in the context of artistic, chronological and typological aspects, as well as the implementation of conservation. |
