A survey of the information on Roman mosaics (mainly Romano-British mosaics) that can be extracted from the online archives of The Times newspaper, with special emphasis on a mosaic dolphin incorporated in the top of a table presented to Dorchester, Massachusetts, on the occasion of its tercentenary in 1930, by the city of Dorchester, Dorset, in England. The dolphin seems to have been made by Miss K.A. Vidler in imitation of the dolphins of the mosaic from Fordington High Street, excavated in 1927. |
