Excavations (2003-2004) of an apsidal room at the north end of a Roman villa pinpointed by a geophysical survey reevaled a well preserved mosaic pavement. The design in the main part of the room was based on a pair of intersecting squares at the centre of which was a roundel containing a guilloche knot with excrescences. That in the apse featured a pattern of radiating spokes and another roundel, here containing an unusual floral motif. Pottery found in the room seems to indicate a date in the mid 4th century. |
