Preparations for the construction of a cover building over the Bellerophon mosaic discovered in 1991 exposed more of the pavement's geometric framework: the interlaced squares containing the figured roundel were shown to be enclosed within a square field, with long rectangular panels of guilloche on either side. In the neighbouring room were found fragments of another mosaic, probably also figured: it used different materials from the first and was of superior workmanship, but too little remained for the scheme or subjects to be determined. |
