The author re-examines the Hinton St Mary mosaic and proposes that the central head accompanied by a Christian monogram is not, as generally believed, Christ but an emperor of the house of Constantine, possibly Constantine himself. Ths is supported by comparison with the emperor's cleft chin and hairstyle as revealed on portraits. |
