A complex of roman buildings with floor mosaic and wall painting decoration was found in the yard of the 8th Primary Municipal School. The designs are mostly geometrical, and embedded in them there is a panel with the personifications of the four Seasons.
Close to the same area, where the co-called « House of Menander » was found in the past, remnants of buildings were unearthed. Those buildings were erected in the 3rd century A.D. over a pre-existing house dating to the 1st cent. B.C -1st cent. A.D. There are three floor mosaics with multicolour geometrical designs and among them the depiction of the Arrival of Telephos in the Minor Asia coast on a central medallion, which is surrounded by scenes from the sea-word (tritons, nereids, etc.). |
