The Ship Depicted in a Mosaic from Migdal, Israel

The article presents the ship mosaic from Migdal together with its archaeological context, stylistic characters and iconography. The ship depicted was built in the Mediterranean « shell-first » tradition. It might have been used as an auxilary vessel in the navy, stationed on the shores of the Sea of Galilee or might have been engaged in maritime trade or even fishing. Style of the mosaic shows that the owner of the villa was familiar with Roman Art (jugding from the use of black and white style). Use of local material is probably an indication of financial concerns.
