The excavation, undertaken in 2004 and 2005 under the direction of Mariarosaria Barbera (Soprintendenza Archeologica di Roma), investigated deposits beneath the Ospedale dell'Addolorata. It has revealed part of a frescoed corridor, 3,8 m wide and originally ca. 3 m high, with a pavement in black mosaic, with windows opening into a garden. Of this structure, datable to the Hadrianic period, various phases of building activity, abandonment, and reuse have been identified, among which the construction of a « bidental » is of particular interest.
