Excavation in 2004 of the praetorium of the Roman fort at Humayma in Jordan exposed four rooms (B, C, D, E) containing geometric mosaic pavements. Dating to the late 1st to 2nd century AD, these are the earliest mosaic pavements yet found in southern Jordan. All four mosaics are illustrated in Fig. 7, p. 138. The mosaic in Room C is described as "a long mosaic of rectangular frames, one of which is a rosette, and three of which contain pillow-like forms in four lobes" (p. 137). |
