Excavations in the agora basilica. The main hall, southern and northern (fragmentarily preserved) aisles and the templon were all decorated with mosaics (opus tessellatum). These mosaics bear geometric and floral motifs as well as figural depictions. The polychrome pavements have a rich range of colours. Tessera density has been measured as ca 70 T/dm² in main and side aisles and ca 170 T/dm² in templon. Mosaic of the central aisle (main hall) is arranged as two panels. The geometric pattern in the western panel is starred octagons (LDG 373a), the medallions in octagons bearing pastoral scenes. The eastern panel bears an orthogonal pattern of adjacent crosses and irregular octagons (LDG 180c), here some of the octagons are decorated with geometric and figural filling motifs, mainly depicting animals. The mosaic in the templon is decorated with various animal depictions placed in and around an ivy scroll. The mosaics of the agora basilica bear 12 mosaic inscriptions. Many of these are dedicatory inscriptions whereas others are shorter « captions » commenting on the pastoral and other scenes used as filling motifs.
