New excavations at Musalar Sanctuary / Nymphaeum which was excavated by Newton in 1857 and 1859. At the western entrance to the sanctuary a small mosaic pavement of white tesserae has been revealed. This was already observed and documented by Newton. The northern entrance to the sanctaury consists of a large room in the front and two smaller rooms at the back. The floor of the western smaller room is paved with a mortar which resembles the bed of the white mosaic at the western entrance. A black tessera found in the area supports this interpretation. Excavations at the stoa of the Dionysos terrace. Fragments and in situ remains of a polychrome opus sectile pavement with geometric design have been revealed in room UA. Besides the opus sectile revetment, sculptural finds and inscribed statue bases reflect the importance of the unit. The room was probably added to the stoa and decorated by Symmakhos who also paid for the renovation of the stoa. Probably 1st c. A.D.
