Excavation at the area with mosaic pavement. A 3rd c. mosaic (opus tessellatum) had been revealed in 1983 and lifted and brought to Edirne Archaeological Museum for better preservation. In 2003, the area around and below this mosaic has been excavated. On the unlifted parts of the mosaic pavement 3rd c. coins and fragments of oil lamps have been found. Below the mortar bed of the mosaic remains of an Early Roman villa with wall paintings have been revealed. The remains of both Early Roman villa and the 3rd c. mosaic continue towards the neighboring fields under private property. |
