Hierapolis di Frigia fra tarda antichità ed XI secolo: l’apporto dello studio degli spazi domestici nell’insula 104

The paper illustrates the results of recent archaeological investigations carried out in insula 104 at Hierapolis (Phrygia) by the University of Venice Ca’ Foscari. The insula was occupied from the Roman to the mid-Byzantine period and witnessed a series of dramatic changes in terms of usage and form of its urban space, primarily devoted to private dwellings. A systematic chronological analysis of private architecture, decoration and building techniques allows us to understand and interpret details of urban change as a reflection of mayor economic and cultural changes. Evidence for cultural transition is also provided by the chrono-typological and archaeometric analysis of the retrieved ceramics, plotted through time. (D'après le résumé de la revue)
