Erythrai Kazısı 2007 Sezonu Çalışmaları

Excavations at Roman Villas in Cennettepe. The mosaics (mainly geometric) in the Roman neighbourhood have been published in 1980’s by Austrian archaeologists. According to the evidence gained in 2007 campaign four preliminary phases have been identified in the area. Phase 1 : Hellenistic period, Phase 2 : Roman period, Phase 3 : Late Roman / Byzantinian period, Phase 4 : Ottoman period and modern times. The mosaics decorating the villas are generally attributed to Phase 2 with renovations / additions in Phase 3. The article also includes a detailed report on the conservation of mosaics. Remains of floor mosaics (belonging to the interior decoration) have beed observed during the survey carried out in fields north of the city center.
