Excavations behind the northern stoa of Artemision revealed a building with the niches. Remains and numerous marble fragments belonging to polychrome geometric opus sectile, decorating parts of the inner façade and the floor. The building has preliminary been identified as a library probably built in the second half of the 2nd c. A.D.
The in situ remains of opus sectile and marble mural have been consolidated. The buiding has been surrounded with a 2m high fence for better preservation. |
