Some Observations on the Theonoe Mosaic from Zeugma

The paper presents a new discovery on the Theonoe Mosaic from Zeugma and reassesses its evaluation in mythical and architectural context. This discovery pertains to two inscriptions found on the mosaic, both of which provide important clues for reconstructing the myth of Theonoe and the image’s possible connection to literary sources. The characters’ iconography, when studied closely and analyzed in light of the remaining inscriptions, speaks for a possible relationship between the Theonoe mosaic and a lost theatrical performance, possibly a mime.
