Two mosaic panels which have appeared on the London market depict respectively a bust of Summer, labelled in Greek, and a galloping deer among plants. The former shows a number of unusual features and is highly suspect; the latter may be a heavily restored fragment from an animal pavement of a type widely attested in the Roman Near East. A third mosaic discussed in an earlier article is probably a forgery created from a mirror image replication of a triumph of marine Venus at Timgad. |
