Rijedak višebojni mozaik iz rimske vile u Pomeru [An exceptional polychrome mosaic of the Roman villa in Pomer]

The article presents a part of the Roman villa discovered in 2007 in Pomer (Istria), which has an L-shaped basin, a channeled spring, and an artificial pond. The distinctive aspect of the mosaic floor is its white and black pebble stone frame and its square central field decorated with three-dimensional rhombuses. In the middle of the mosaic floor two polychrome eight-leaf rosettes are preserved. One rosette has a rare motif of petals terminating in stylised birds’ heads and bills. That motif, most probably Hadrianic, is known in Pula and Padua, all within the X. Regio Italiae “Venetia et Histria”. L-shaped water reservoirs with a spring (three are known in Istria until now) and eight-petaled rosettes are particularities of Istrian villas of 2nd century .
