Lokalitet : Stari Grad – Srinjo kola (kuća Tomaš Palarić)

In 2008, Stari Grad Museum carried out emergency archaeological excavations in the house of Tomaš Palarić in Srinja Street. Apart from mosaics discovered in the first phase of the excavations and the remains of a Late Antique wall, the final operations discovered an earlier Greek wall and confirmed the hypothesis that there was there a large unit to which the mosaic belonged. The style of the mosaic and fragments of Roman ceramics date this object to the 2nd or 3rd century. By comparison with earlier excavations in Srinja Street, known through drawings, the remains of the Greek wall can be connected with structures that belonged to the Greek phase of the building. According to Kordić Galić, the excavations in the Tomaš Palarić house confirmed the results of previous investigations, and showed that this was a luxury space of unknown purpose from the time of the flourishing of Roman civilisation in this area.
