After enumerating a number of cases where Romano-British mosaics were mistreated as a result of building alterations and other factors, both in antiquity and in modern times, the author draws particular attention to a mosaic at Caerwent which was bisected by a late wall, turning the western third into the pavement of the antechamber of a new apsidal room. |
