A store of loose tesserae from the villa at Halstock, taken in 1979 to aid a restoration of the mosaic at Littlecote (Wiltshire) but never used, turned out to contain a number of specially cut stones evidently designed for a pavement in opus sectile. The author illustrates a sample of these pieces and suggests some patterns that could have been formed. |
