The article gives a detailed account of the excavation of the Church of St Sergius, the adjacent chapel identified as a martyrium, an atrium and the monumental tomb discovered in the village of Nitl. It also focuses on the various phases of the complex, particularly on the chronology of its abandonment, using the ceramic typologies collected in the various strata. An account is also given of the mosaic pavements and their iconographic subjects, citing analogies from the Madaba diocese dating the mosaic to the first half of the 6th century. |
