The second church at Yasileh in Jordan and its mosaics

The article analyses the pavements of the second church of Yasilah in northern Jordan dated to A.D. 528 (in the Era of Bostra). The building, of basilical type, is oriented north-south; its mosaic pavement, though partially conserved, displays an elaborate set of geometric patterns, decorations, and few surviving figurative elements. The authors provide an analysis of the employed patterns, inserting them within a broader mosaic context of the Levant, referring to combined motifs that enjoyed a long-term popularity from the Roman to the Byzantine periods, especially in the area of modern Jordan.
