Arhitektonski ostaci antičkih središta središnjeg dijela Dardanije (Kosova) [Architectonic ruins in antique centres of central part of Dardania (Kosovo)]

The paper deals with the architectural ruins in the region of Dardania (modern Kosovo) found not only in greater centres, but also in other settlements, beginning from the period of incorporation of Dardania into the Roman Empire untill the end of the last important ancient centre, Ulpiana (nearby Priština), at the end of the 6th century. After reviewing all of the material, the author concludes that apart from excavations of smaller scale, the archaeological data are best reflected in Municipium Dardanicum with its forum and basilica urbana. The remains are classified according to their function: dwellings, especially villas with mosaics of high artistic level (in Ulpiana and Vendenis); main buildings of public character in the town core – forum, horrea, temple and basilica urbana (in Municipium Dardanicum), the horrea as an independent part of the town (in Ulpiana and in the big antique settlement in the modern town of Peja – ant. Siparuntum?); baths (in Ulpiana, Municipium Dardanicum and in a settlement of greater scale of the modern village of Çifllak on the riverbank of White Drin); trade and craftsmen’s buildings along porticoes on both sides of main roads, among which of particular importance are workshops for the smelting and processing of metals with several furnaces (in Ulpiana).
