A comparison of photographs from both the Dura-Europos excavation of 1933 and the excavation at Verulamium in the same year shows only women cleaning Roman mosaic pavements in situ. This type of archaeological work was considered appropriate for women archaeologists at the time, reflecting gender roles professionally in this period. |
