The rescue excavations carried out by the Museum of Anatolian Civilizations revealed several graves from the Late Roman-Early Byzantine period in Maltepe, Ankara (Ancyra). The article presents the results of archaeometric analyses executed on metal, mosaic and mortar finds from these excavations. The most common elements that have been identified in the glass tesserae are Ca, Pb, Fe, Cu and Au. In some examples it has also been possible to identify remains of gold leaf placed between the glass tesserae. |
