Halikarnassos Tonozlu Mezar Grubu

Examination of 17 different grave monuments, situated northwest of the Hellenistic gate of Halicarnassus, called the “Myndos Gate”. The ante-chambers of four grave monuments are paved with mosaics. Mosaic in front of Grave no. 3 represents a hunting scene with a deer and a dog. The partly damaged mosaic in Grave no. 15 consists of three panels. In the central panel, vine scrolls emerge from a crater with birds eating grapes on its branches. The side panels bear depictions of a thyrsos with ivy leaves. The mosaic in Grave no. 17 is decorated with geometric motifs and trefoil leaves.
