The northeastern and southeastern pendentives of Hagia Sophia are decorated with figures of seraphim in mosaic. During the restoration works carried out by the Fossati brothers in 1847-1849, the faces of these figures were covered with a layer of plaster and a zinc mask. Recent conservation activities revealed the face of the northeastern seraph. |
