2010 Yılı Laodikeia Kazıları

Excavations of the Laodikeia Church. Remains of tesserae made of polychrome glass, mother-of-pearl and stones indicate the existence of mosaic decoration on the vaults. The central nave of the naos is paved with opus sectile, whereas the side aisles are paved with opus tessellatum mosaics. Other areas decorated with opus sectile floor are the apse, bema, prothesis, diaconicon, narthex and baptisterium. The opus tessellatum pavements are polychrome and consist of geometric and floral motifs. Two mosaic inscriptions honor Protodeacon Polycarpos and Deacon Alexandros as donors of the pavement. Probably 4th c. A.D. Excavations of the church’s peristyle house (Kiliseli Peristilli Ev) near the Northern Theater. Mention of a geometric opus sectile pavement decorating the room with an apse.
