Parnassos Antik Kenti 2010 Yılı Kilise Kurtarma Kazısı

Mosaic pavements have been revealed in the naos and northern aisle of a church in the ancient city of Parnassos. The naos mosaic bears an inscription (16 lines, 180 cm in diameter) mentioning the name of the dedicatee as well as the date of construction (469-470 A.D.). Around the inscription, a paradisiacal scene is represented with animals such as a leopard, ostrich, sheep, hare, ibex, deer, roe deer, horse, duck, and bull. The figural panel is surrounded by three different geometric borders. The mosaic pavement in the northern aisle consists of two different geometric panels. On the northern side, meander motifs are surrounded by three borders, whereas, on the southern side, rosettes are surrounded by a single border.
