Rescue excavations carried out by the Şanlıurfa Museum in order to reveal a mosaic pavement which was found during highway construction in 2008 and 2009.
In Trench 5: Two polycrome mosaic pavements (opus tessellatum) were revealed. The first mosaic bears a Syriac inscription which is partly preserved. The second mosaic (approx 150 m2), which belongs to the basilica dated to 5th-6th c. A.D., bears two Syriac inscriptions with the name of the patron. In 2009, the mosaics were lifted and transported to the museum.
In Trenches 1 and 4: Coloured tesserae were found.
In Trench 3: Mosaic fragments of yellow, red and ligtht blue were found.
In Trench 8: A pool paved with mosaic was revealed in a room identified as a workshop. The pool mosaic was lifted and transported to the site of Haleplibahçe. |
