2009 Yılı Gülpınar Kazıları (30.Yıl)

During excavation of the Roman Baths, two interconnected rooms were revealed south of the frigidarium. The eastern room is paved with a mosaic showing a geometric carpet pattern (fig. 12). The outer margin, the border and the carpet pattern are executed in black and white, whereas polychrome tesserae are used for filler motifs. The adjacent room to the west (fig. 8) has a hypocaust system below the pavement which was destroyed during the Byzantine period. The mosaic here was planned and executed together with the eastern room and consists of a geometric pattern executed in black and white. Numerous glass tesserae suggest that both rooms were also decorated with wall mosaics.
