résumé de l'AIEMA | :
Views on the dating of the mosaics in the Rotunda are based exclusively on the correlation of its conversion to a Christian church. The Christian structural additions do not, however, provide categorical confirmation for this correspondence. On the contrary, it seems more likely that the mosaics were already in the dome of the building before its conversion to a Christian church. Moreover, from an iconographical point of view, the mosaics do not contain features with an exclusively Christian religious interpretation. On the contrary, elements of the Emperor worship in Late Antiquity are prominent. The whole matter is susceptible of other approaches, too. The Rotunda of Thessaloniki, as does the mausoleum of St Constance in Rome, provides answers to a series of questions. |
