The article studies depictions of three different love stories on Cilician mosaics which are originally known from ancient literature. The first example is a commonly known story from the Greek mythology, the love between Oceanus, god of ocean-stream and fresh water and his wife Tethys. The second one is an impossible love put down on paper by Oppianus in the 3rd c. A.D., the love between a snake and a Muraena helena. The third example is a love story between two human who simply could not be united with each other : King Ninus and Queen Semiramis of Niniva. |
