The author proposes an earlier date, perhaps as early as the late 2nd or early 3rd century, for the mosaics in Verulamium Building XXVII.2 which S.S. Frere assigned to the second half of the 4th century. As a consequence some of the events which post-dated the laying of the mosaic, and which Frere places in the 5th century, may be pushed back into the 4th. |
