This paper focuses on early discoveries of Romano-British figured mosaics, looking beyond information contained in traditional records such as excavation reports and corpora. It considers what less conventional sources can tell us, with particular regards to how the mosaics looked at the time of discovery before any subsequent loss or restoration: old records can often be vital aids to studying iconography and style.
