résumé de l'AIEMA | :
New theory about the interpretation of archaeological and other cultural remains is applied to the study of mosaics from Turkey and Britain which represent Orpheus. These are considered in relation to four metaphor-concepts referred to as personhood, social effect, cognitive space, and time-presence, concepts that reflect the interest of archaeologists in identity, agency, cognition and time. Although there are similarities in changing depictions and styles of representation, it is argued that there are some fundamentally different meanings evident in these metaphorical-conceptual areas, both between east and west, and between the middle and terminal empire.
