The article discusses the parallels between the iconography of mosaics in the Chora Church (Kariye Camii) and the iconography of the frescoes in the Holy Trinity Church at Sopocani in Serbia. The main topic is the structural analysis of frescoes, i.e. reducing frescoes to basic geometrical figures and establishing relations between them. In addition, the article concentrates on the interpretation of symbols, with perspective on the role of transferring messages and using symbolism of colors and light. A special analysis is dedicated to the parallel interpretation of the scene of the Dormition of the Mother of God. (Excerpt from the author’s abstract.) |
