The horse occupied an important position in the life and belief of ancient times so that it was portrayed iconographically in several branches of art. It is observed that the horse figures on mosaic panels reflect the similar improvement of horse figures illustrated in other branches of art. In mosaics, the horse was represented both alone and in mythological, hunting, racing and battle scenes. In this essay, the iconography of the horse is investigated according to the different types of compositions. (Excerpt from the author’s abstract.) |
