The author presents two images found in both pagan and Christian funerary mosaics and discusses the ambivalence of their meaning: one is the depiction of the deceased, and the other is a representation of torches often flanking the deceased. The unique form of the funerary mosaics that cover or envelop the tomb has been found mainly in North Africa, mostly in Tunisia, and also in Algeria. They have been researched and published in their various aspects. |
