The author interprets animals in mosaics from Caerwent (boar, hound, lion, hound with hare), Colchester (lion) and Littlecote (deer, leopard, bull, goat) as representing the Seasons. On the other hand, it is argued that the animals around the Rudston Venus (bull, lion, leopard, stag), which are regarded by some as seasonal, do not carry a seasonal connotation in this mosaic but are solely related to the amphitheatre. |
