résumé de l'AIEMA | :
A discussion of mosaics from the Early Byzantine period in Israel containing inscriptions referring to mosaicists. Eight inscriptions are set out in the original language with translations provided for most of them. Six are in Greek: from the Beth Alpha synagogue referring to a father and son; from a synagogue at Beth Shean in which the same names appear (the author suggests perhaps the same people or their descendants); from Battir near Jerusalem; from Beth Guvrin; from a church at Kissufim; and from a site recently excavated in Gaza City. One inscription from the monastery at Bir el-Qutt near Bethlehem is in Georgian. The final inscription, which is given in the original only, is in Aramaic and comes from the synagogue pavement in the Kyrios Leontis Complex at Beth Shean. |
