A description and analysis of the geometric, plant and figurative motifs shown in the mosaics at Rabaçal, comparing and contrasting them with similar motifs in a wide range of mosaics elsewhere. The authors note an affinity with motifs used in Byzantine mosaics. They suggest that a lack of parallels for the Seasons and other motifs at Rabaçal indicates the work of mosaicists trained in the east or artists in contact with that area. |
