résumé de l'AIEMA | :
God-like individuals depicted in the mosaics and reliefs from Osroene (modern Şanlıurfa), and especially from Palmyra and Dura-Europos, reflect the area's traditional rituals and religious structure with a vast pantheon. For example, the God Maralahe and the cult of the twin Gods Azizos and Monimos are depicted in mosaics, whereas gods like Nabu and Bel are known from written sources. The importance given to the family in the area of Osroene and in other cultures in Syria can also be seen through the mosaics in Edessa and in the reliefs of Palmyra and Dura-Europos. Family rituals, especially funerals, have been given importance by the people in these areas and have been reflected on the archaeological works. (Excerpt from the author’s abstract.) |
