A mosaic from Amisos, depicting Achilleus and Thetis and framed by personifications of the Seasons, has close parallels in southern Anatolia, especially in Zeugma and Antioch. This suggests the existence of a relationship between the northern and southern parts of Anatolia and can be explained as a consequence of either itinerant artists or use of pattern books. The main route for this connection was probably across the Anatolian Plain. |
