The author describes two mosaics found at Syedra which demonstrate the level of culture in this city. One came from the floor of a shallow pool and depicts fishing Erotes. It is discussed in comparison with similar scenes, especially those from Cilicia (Anazarbus and Iskenderun-Myriandus) and Antioch. The other shows the Abduction of Hylas in a panel bordered by acanthus and hunting scenes. Other depictions of this scene are considered, especially that from Volubilis. |
