résumé de l'AIEMA | :
The article discusses changes in physical layout, circulation patterns, modifications and refurbishments of houses in Zeugma during the Roman imperial period. In earlier examples, the central courtyard served as a passage between different parts of the house, whereas axial circulation is attested from the end of the second century. Mosaics play an important part in defining circulation patterns and can be interpreted as an expression of the partial Romanization of these houses. The triclinia which are decorated with high quality wall paintings and mosaic pavements are situated near the axis of circulation. The remains also reveal the existence of upper floors which were partially paved with mosaics. |
