Tourist guide to the Roman Villa of Brückneudorf (Burgenland). After the middle of the 4th c. AD the villa was enlarged (1000 m²), 450 m² of them were furnished with excellent figurative and geometric mosaics. The best known of them are the panels with Bellerophon killing the Chimaera in room 9 and the bust of Ceres in the central medallion of the mosaic floor of room 11. Setting, size and the luxurious furnishing of the villa led the excavator to the conclusion that it was an imperial villa or the seat of a governor. |
