This report publishes material from the extensive excavations at Herod’s Third Palace at Jericho which took place between 1973 and 1987. It focuses on the large quantity of decorative remains from the palace – wall paintings, plaster mouldings, mosaics, opus sectile and decorative terracotta fragments. Despite the title, the book contains much more, e.g. full documentation of contemporary paintings at Masada and Petra. The author makes extensive comparisons with similar decorations elsewhere and demonstrates the existence of a real koine in interior decoration.
